Most essential tips to boost your focus.
Focussed learning will help you learn more content in a limited time. If you get distracted while studying, you are at a disadvantage compared to students with a significant focus. Include these five habits in your everyday learning.
Quality is not an act, but a habit (Aristotle)
1. Announce that you are studying
Inform everyone in the room or in the house that you are going to study. For example, if you talk to a friend frequently on the phone, you should inform them. Alerting everyone before you start your study will ensure that nobody will disturb you when you are studying. Once disturbed, it takes a lot of time to refocus on the task again.
2. Remove all distractions.
Keep only those books on your table that you need to study a particular topic. Keep only the required stationery that you need now. Do not keep your mobile phone or your laptop If you do not need it. Prepare a checklist of all the things required. Gather all the items before you start studying so that you do not have to leave your desk each time to find a new something.
Use airplane mode on your laptop if the internet is not required for your task. If you need to browse the internet for some research, turn off all the unnecessary tabs, especially Facebook and Instagram. If you use your mobile as a calculator, then turn off the internet. This way, you will not be disturbed by the constant WhatsApp and Instagram notifications.
3. Gather all the study material before you start your study
Before starting your study session, a little bit of planning will go a long way in boosting your productivity. Collect all the books, notes, etc., before you start studying. Leaving the desk to bring your books or notes between your study session will create an unnecessary distraction. Keep a water bottle near you so that you can sip water whenever you feel thirsty. Adequate hydration is also suitable for peak mental performance.
4. Control the noise around you
A noisy environment decreases your ability to focus, leading to reduced efficiency in studies. Close the door or window if there is a noisy environment near you. You can also use earplugs or headphones to control the noise. A noise-free environment boosts concentration to a great extent.
5. Set a timer and start
Set a timer for 25 to 50 minutes, depending on the task you plan to do. Setting a timer tells your brain that it is time to focus on a job. Setting a timer also calms your mind by reminding your brain that you will get a break after some time. Although duration of 25 to 30 minutes is ideal for good focus before taking a short break, few tasks require a longer focus duration.
Take a short interval of five minutes after 25 to 50 minutes of intense focus. This five-minute break is significant in preventing mental fatigue. Make sure that the gap is not longer than five minutes; otherwise, this will decrease your efficiency.
At the end of your study session, please keep all the items back in their proper place. Then, you will be able to start your next study session quickly without wasting any time.
